As we enter the final year of the Brilliant Future campaign, we reflect on the transformative impact our alumni and friends have made on our students, research and the community. So far, more than 110,000 donors have contributed over $1.94 billion to advance groundbreaking medical and scientific research, expand scholarships for students from diverse backgrounds and create programs that uplift O.C. neighborhoods.
There are many reasons our alumni and friends are passionate about building a brilliant future for UC Irvine and beyond. In this video, Phil Anthony, a grateful patient and UC Irvine Foundation trustee, along with his wife Kelly, share their journey through his seizures, unparalleled care and recovery.
A transformational gift of $50 million, following a $20 million donation to UCI Health in 2022, from Southern California businessman Joe C. Wen and his family will support the newly created School of Population & Public Health and the growth of cardiovascular research and care.
“This gift supports UC Irvine’s belief that human and environmental health are integrated and that well-being requires an evidence-based approach that engages all disciplines in the School of Biological Sciences,” said Chancellor Howard Gillman.
A team of researchers from the UC Irvine School of Education, led by Assistant Professor Andres Bustamante, received a two-year, $1.9 million research award from the Advanced Education Research and Development Fund’s EF+Math Program to adapt the innovative math game Fraction Ball for the Santa Ana Unified School District.
Third-year UC Irvine mechanical engineering student and scholarship recipient Ozzy Sanchez-Aldana dreams of working in NASA’s space exploration division.
The mother and grandmother of Anteater athletes, Pat Campbell is now the lead donor of a gift that will benefit men’s and women’s players for years to come.
California and longtime Laguna Beach resident, Vicki Gumm, knows just how important it is to give back to organizations that enrich the community – for herself, her loved ones and her neighbors.
This contribution will spearhead a novel initiative at the School of Social Ecology focused on leveraging the power of music to galvanize students, other individuals and communities for social progress and well-being.
Trang Truong, who’s enrolled in the UC Irvine master’s entry program in nursing, received the 2023-24 Carol A. Pierson MEPN Student Scholarship, which she says alleviates some of the stress that comes with being a first-generation, low-income student.
As part of the Mapel family’s final wishes, an endowment of over $9.5 million was established through their estate, continuing support of pioneering research projects and establishing a new endowment to fund medical education scholarships for low-income students.
