We Can’t Do It Alone
Unified under the banner “Engineering+,” the Engineering+Health Institute, Engineering+Society Institute and Engineering+Environment Institute will allow researchers from diverse disciplines to conduct transformational research.
“It takes a special type of person to commit to making such a large planned gift to support research, and we are forever grateful for Carla Liggett’s trust and recognition of the importance of our work,” says Joshua Grill, UCI MIND director.
The largest gift to UCI from alumni, the couple’s donation will be allocated in a variety of ways, including awards, scholarships and fellowships for students and to finance new research initiatives and faculty chairs.
The financial support from three scholarships allowed Kyle Suen to pursue academic opportunities and experiences that he wouldn’t have otherwise been able to.
A $14 million grant will help establish a School of Population and Public Health and promote health equity for all O.C. residents.
Matt Bailey, MBA ’12 remembers how hard it was to be an artist on a student budget. He hopes to alleviate financial pressures for UC Irvine’s emerging artists with a $125,000 gift to support scholarship and creative research.
The Holland Foundation for Sight Restoration, with a $300,000 commitment, has selected the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute as the first of five planned centers of excellence for severe ocular disease care across the world to expand the availability of this complex treatment.
“It is my hope that this endowment will help encourage more young attorneys to include pro bono work as an important part of their careers,” said Michael G. Ermer, partner emeritus at Irell & Manella LLP.
UCI Jack and Shanaz Langson Institute and Museum of California Art has been awarded a two-year grant from The Hearst Foundations, Inc. to expand its distinctive art education program within the UC Irvine and greater Orange County communities.
